Rubén Ortiz Torres

Rubén Ortiz Torres is born in Mexico City in 1964. He studies at the Academy of San Carlos, one of the oldest art schools in the Americas, and then at the California Institute of the Arts, one of the newest.

Living and working in Los Angeles since 1990, he moves among photography, painting, sculpture, and video, in work associated with a distinctly Mexican postmodernism. It is held by the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

He teaches in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of California, San Diego.
